Chequer Board Cookies

Though time consuming and somewhat irritating if things start to go wrong, I still like to make these as a sort of exercise in patience, to slow the world down when it begins falling apart.

The pleasure of producing a batch of even sizes and shapes that you don’t always achieve with more conventional biscuits is magical!

I have on occasion used other colours to create more of a harlequin effect and that can also work very well!

These are from a fairly recent book, dating back to the mid-eighties, but never fear, I am currently collating a whole batch of documents detailing more traditional candies and sweetmeats!

Though I do like these.

They’re as soothing and relaxing an item to eat as much as make!
